During the 1970’s London’s gangsters began to migrate from the city and headed east to Essex.
In the 1990’s a turf war broke out as rave culture boomed and crime bosses realised that there was big money to made for selling ecstasy.
It came to a head in 1995 with the brutal murders of three drug dealers. Those events were later turned into the movie ‘Essex Boys’ starring Tom Wilkinson and Alex Kingston.
This episode of Britain’s Underworld delves into that story and examines the battle between the gangs and smugglers who fought for control of Essex’s ports turning its seaside towns into their violent playground.
