STORYLINE


Forensic Files is an American documentary-style series that reveals how forensic science is used to solve violent crimes, mysterious accidents, and even outbreaks of illness. The show was originally broadcast on TLC, narrated by Peter Thomas, and produced by Medstar Television, in association with truTV Original Productions. It broadcast 400 episodes since its debut on TLC in 1996 as Medical Detectives. Reruns shown on HLN were initially retitled Mystery Detectives before settling with the main title of the show in 2014.

Episode 21: Smiley Face

A sadistic serial rapist runs rampant through Delaware and Maryland. One woman had been sexually assaulted, stabbed repeatedly, and left for dead. Brenda Robinson survived, and gave police a detailed description of her attacker. When someone who fit that description practically turned himself in, police were sure they had their man.


Episode 22: Dirty Laundry

The murder of a Kentucky businessman appears to have been the work of an intruder. But when police discover racy photos, they suspect the victim knew his killer.


Episode 23: Drowning Sorrows

A medical examiner is suspicious when a drowning victim’s brain shows signs of an attack hours before death. A computer analysis and paint on a shoe reveal the murderer’s identity.


Episode 24: As-Fault

Two friends out on the town see a red truck drive by with a woman screaming in the back. Later, their friend is reported missing, and her body is found in a nearby river.


Episode 25: Family Ties

When court clerk Peter Porco doesn’t report to his work in November 2004, a courts officer is ordered to the Porcos’ family home in Bethlehem, NY. Inside the home he finds murdered Peter Porco and his barely alive wife Joan who had both been savagely attacked with a fireman’s axe. Eventually police can prove the crime was committed by the couple’s son Christopher Porco.

A rare type of wire, a rhinestone dog collar and a hypnotist help detectives finally close the book on an explosive investigation.

There was no clear reason for a young, healthy college student to be dead. But when the medical examiner discovered the tiniest of clues during the autopsy, investigators were able to uncover the mystery filled with betrayal and revenge.

Episode 30: Dollars and Sense

On Christmas Eve, the corpse of a black male was found burning near Baltimore. He was eventually identified as twenty-six year-old Wesley Person. Distinctive building materials from the 1930s found near the body played a critical role in solving this puzzling case.
