Forensic Files is an American documentary-style series that reveals how forensic science is used to solve violent crimes, mysterious accidents, and even outbreaks of illness. The show was originally broadcast on TLC, narrated by Peter Thomas, and produced by Medstar Television, in association with truTV Original Productions. It broadcast 400 episodes since its debut on TLC in 1996 as Medical Detectives. Reruns shown on HLN were initially retitled Mystery Detectives before settling with the main title of the show in 2014.

Episode 41: Palm Saturday

A young couple is found murdered in their Graham, Washington home; detectives discover shoe impressions, a partial palm print, and a neighbor’s criminal past.

Episode 42: Shoe-in for Murder

Terrified, the young girl hid in her bedroom while her mother was attacked and stabbed to death. Investigators had a wealth of evidence: shoe impressions, distinctive blood drops, and the killer’s DNA. What they didn’t have was a basis for comparison.

Episode 43: Family Interrupted

The gunman opened fire as the family of four entered their home, killing two and wounding the others. He’d pulled open a few drawers to make it look like a robbery, but the scene was clearly staged. When police pieced together the clues, they discovered an unlikely suspect and a carefully orchestrated plot.

Episode 44: Runaway Love

In Newport Beach, California, a woman is fatally stabbed and her body is found in the harbor near a yacht club. Suspecting it was a rage killing, police investigate the victim’s daughter and ex-husband.

Episode 45: Watchful Eye

On May 20, 2001, Carrie Nelson, then 20, was beaten to death while working alone in a park office. The case went unsolved for six years until May 2007 when, in a routine check of DNA samples of prison inmates in South Dakota, police found a match with DNA samples gathered from the crime scene. The samples linked Randy Leeroyal Swaney, 35, to the murder. In August 2008, Randy Swaney was sentenced to life in prison.

Episode 47: Dirty Little Seacret

Police get a clue about a couple who disappeared on Memorial Day weekend during an in-progress robbery. The evidence found solves a brutal crime. Episode documents the 2002 murders of Joshua Ford and Martha Crutchley by killers Erika and Benjamin Sifrit.

Episode 48: Lights Out

A Texas housewife is murdered and her young daughter is attacked but survives. An in-law is suspected, but no arrests are made until DNA advancements help crack the case 15 years later.

Episode 49: Pet Rock

In 1995, Palm Beach waitress Denise O’Neill is abducted and murdered. Her neighbour Luis Caballero arouses suspicions by his odd behaviour towards tv crews covering the crime. In the end police can prove Caballero and two other men committed the murder.

Episode 50: Best Foot Forward

Shamaia Smith disappeared from the strip club where she worked in East Hartford, CT. Police focus on local businessman Kenneth Otto when there are inconsistencies with his story. Otto’s property is searched and cadaver dogs find something in a fire pit.
