STORYLINE

Dr. George Parkman, a professor-turned-landlord and money-lender, mysteriously disappeared on November 23, 1849. The discovery of the remains was made by an unlikely person, janitor Ephraim Littlefield, who did much more than maintain a clean floor. In addition to keeping the Harvard Medical College building, Mr. Littlefield was involved in the ghoulish job of obtaining corpses for dissection. And, the suspect turned out not to be a poor Irish immigrant as expected, but rather a professor of good social standing, Dr, John Webster. Court testimonies and accounts uncovered gossip, revenge and greed, as Boston became fixated on the details of the gruesome murder trial.
